Initial Psychiatric Evaluation
The initial appointment that is approximately 60 minutes in length utilizing a bio-psycho-social approach to establish a probable diagnosis and a recommended treatment plan. Prior to the appointment the patient is to fill out a New Patient Form either at the office or prior to the appointment at home. The patient and family are provided with the information and education necessary to allow for a proper informed decision regarding treatment options – such as psychotherapy and/or psychotropic medications.
If during the initial appointment, education and discussion of treatment and diagnoses takes up the full 60 minutes an additional appointment may be scheduled to conclude the discussion and potential prescribing of medications. One may leave the first appointment without medications being prescribed.
Medication Management and Psychotherapy
Medication management appointment may range from 15 minutes to 30 minutes in length. These are designed to discuss how well current treatment is progressing and how symptom control may be. At this appointment there maybe additional education and support to help with symptom control. There will also be discussion about medication efficacy and tolerability which may lead to adjusting, adding, or stopping medication. The philosophy in this practice, when utilizing medication, is to prescribe the lowest dose that treats the most amount of symptoms with the least amount of side effects. The length of time can vary between appointment and are dependent on stability of symptoms and potential need for psychotherapy that maybe incorporated into treatment.

Fee For Service
Columbus Psychiatry is not a participating provider on any health insurance plan, nor does Columbus Psychiatry file health insurance claims. Payment is due before the appointment. At this time Columbus Psychiatry only accepts cash, check, or major credit card (3.5% fee) for services. A receipt will be provided, upon request, at the end of the visit for submission for out-of-network claims.
